Philosophy
The practice of yoga is much more than a physical exercise. We do yoga to heal the body so that we may know the self. There are eight petals of yoga that reveal themselves. These are eternal, ethical ways of living (yama), self-observation (niyama), poses (asana), breath control (pranayama), sense withdrawal (prat yahara), concentration (dharana), meditation (dhyana) and peaceful absorption (samadhi). Yoga which is executed with only asana in mind only leads to more egoism and a misuse of power. If a student is humble and committed, all of these limbs or petals may be experienced during the practice of asana (poses), leading to the peace of self-understanding and the higher qualities of joy, union and generosity. Wow! Namaste.
