"Learning how to be kind to ourselves, learning how to respect ourselves, is important. The reason it's important is that, fundamentally, when we look into our own hearts and begin to discover what is confused and what is brilliant, what is bitter and what is sweet, it isn't just ourselves that we're discovering. We're discovering the universe."
When Jae was 12 years old she fell hard against a poplar tree and the poplar tree won.
Her left leg was left broken like a twig.
As with all injuries, Jae’s task was to recover.
Her first Yoga class was held in 1989 in the basement of the First Baptist Church of Pensacola, Florida - the town in which she was born and raised. She was accompanied by her good friend Francis Baxley who assured her this was the way she could gain back her injured leg’s agility. They were two young friends far ahead of their time.
Jae became dedicated to Yoga right away.
Her experiences brought her to Bikram Choudhury in 1999 where she earned her first teaching certificate. From there, she spent several years teaching Yoga in Northern California.
A lucky chance brought her to meet Tim Johnson in 2004. Upon which, Tim made her an offer she couldn’t refuse – join the company of CorePower Yoga. And so she spent the next several years as a member of their management team.
Jae is dedicated to the task of supporting students in becoming the Yogis they were born to become. This dedication has brought her to both ends of the country, sharing her love of Yoga from coast to coast. To be closer to her amazing father (J.B.), she moved to New Orleans in 2010 and continues to teach. Her commitment to Yoga can be equivocated to the quote above - Jae is dedicated to the task of supporting her students to look into their own hearts and discover the universe.
