Kara Feringa was first introduced to yoga while working in advertising and public relations in the Los Angeles area; she has now been practicing for more than a decade. In 2003, she began teaching yoga, having received her yoga certification from Argie Ligeros Tang, who opened the first Yoga College of India for Bikram Choudury in 1978. (Argie is a former AAU champion gymnast and founder of the Yoga for Athletes program.) Kara has continued her study of yoga with Bruno since Yoga 108 opened in New Orleans in 2005.
In addition to her certification in yoga, Kara is also a certified spinning instructor and a certified aerobics instructor; she received her spinning instructor certification from Mad Dogg Athletics out of California and earned her primary aerobics instructor certification from the American Aerobic Association International (AAAI) and International Sports Medicine Association (ISMA).
Kara currently teaches yoga and spinning classes at Pelican Athletic Club in Mandeville, at Gilboy's Athletic Club in Covington, and she teaches Bikram yoga here at Yoga 108 in New Orleans.
Kara is the mother of 11-year-old triplets: Megan, Ellen, and Brett. Kara's hobbies include yoga, tennis, and running. She has completed more than 10 half-marathons.
